Adding i8k nameservers to your domain name at your registrar :

Before you web site is ready for the world to see, you must add our nameservers
to your domain name. This is done by logging into your account at the registrar
you registered your domain name with. Within your account you have a section
to add the nameservers. The nameservers you should use are specified in the
account notification email you received after signing up.

If reqired, you may have to enter the IP addresses of the nameservers also,
depending on your registrar. IP addresses are also included in your account
notification email.

This procedure generally takes 48 to 72 hour to propogate, at which time your
web site will be available via the world wide web.

Creating and/or updating your web site :

All site management is done via the Site Administrator Control Panel.
Before your domain name has propogated with our name servers and your
registrar, you can access your accounts control panel be clicking the link
provided in your account notification email, or you can simply create a
shortcut in your web browser to the server administrator login page.

Once your domain name has propogated, you can access your site
administrator control panel from : http://yourdomain.com/admin

To login you enter your user name, domain name (without www.),
and password.

Once you have logged into the server administrator control panel, click
Site Summary, located on the left in the admin menu. This displays detailed
information about your account, including a link on top to change your
administrator password, and also the summary displays a link to the place
holder for your web site, which you can use to view your site while you are
editing it, before our nameservers propogate with your domain's registrar.

Your Server Administrator Control Panel includes a File Management System.
click Files, located on the left in the admin menu to access the file manager.

HTML Files should be transfered to var/www/html
PERL/CGI Files should be transfered to var/www/cgi-bin

Within the file manager, clicking an icon next to a filename allows you to
set the file permissions for each file. Clicking directly on the filename
allows you to download the file. Clicking on the pencil icon located on the
far right of filenames allows you to edit and save the file instantly with the
built in editor. Clicking the trash can icon next to the pencil icon deletes the
file. You can also use the checkboxed to manipulate multiple files at once.

Please see the FTP section of this F.A.Q. for detailed information on
uploading multiple files via FTP.

Setting up Sub Domains on your web site :

Recently, we have upgraded our servers to allow the use of Sub Domains.
This feature is not enabled by default, you must submit a request asking
to enabled sub domains for your web site, using our support system.

Sub Domains are domains that reside within your main web sites html
folder, and can utilize additional words, before your domain name.

Example : anything.yourdomain.com

Please note, you cannot utilize :

http://www.anything.yourdomain.com,

you can only access a sub domain from :

http://anything.yourdomain.com.

Setting up and utilizing sub domains is as easy as adding a new user.

Add a new user via your control panel. The username you select will be
the name of the new sub domain created.

Example : we create a user named : anything

The user 'anything' now owns a sub domain : anything.yourdomain.com
which is accessible from http://anything.yourdomain.com.

To add content to the sub domain login to the user account via FTP and
upload your content.

Monitoring your site's statistics :

Your account not only includes detailed monitoring of web, email,
and bandwidth from within your control panel, you also have a complete
statistical display of your sites activity at

http://yourdomain.com/stats

The webalizer statistics are updated daily and display detailed
information about all activity, including visitors ip's, their browser
types, and even their locations.

Special note : If you do not want your site statistics to be accessible by
everyone, you should password protect the stats directory.
To do this login to your control panel, click the Services icon, then Click
the Configure icon for Apache Web Server. Here you can get detailed help
about setting up a password protected directory, and this is where you
configure them also.

Note - If your site has frontpage extensions enabled, you must utilize
the directory protection feature provided by frontpage instead of
apache password protection.

Logging into your site via Telnet and/or SSH Shell :

Due to recent security related issues we have disabled all telnet access.

To access your site via shell you should use SSH instead. This is similar to
telnet but is much more secure. Secure CRT is a very good SSH client,
there are of course others available you may prefer to utilize.

To access your shell accounts, enter the required information as follows :

Host : yourdomain.com
User Name : your_login_name@yourdomain.com
Password : your site admin password.

Setting up and utilizing PERL / CGI scripts :

Special Note : Uploading scripts via the control panel is not recommended,
you should use an ftp program set to ascii mode when uploading scripts.
PERL/CGI Files should be transfered via ftp to var/www/cgi-bin

Login to your Server Administrator Control Panel. Click Files, located
on the left in the admin menu to access the file manager.

Within the cgi-bin folder, click the icon next to the filename you
want to set the file permissions for.

When setting permissions you should remember the general
permissions rules, which apply to all three groups, they are :

Read = 4
Write = 2
Execute =1

This system works as follows :

A CGI file that is CHMOD to 755 would be set :

Owner : Read / Write / Execute (4+2+1 = 7)
Group : Read / Execute (4+1 = 5)
Other : Read / Execute (4+1 = 5)

It is important to learn this when working with the control panel,
it is easy, and much faster than having to access your account
via shell, change to the proper folder and type 'chmod 755 filename'.

Select the appropriate check boxes, and click the Update Permissions button.

Running your cgi scripts :

The path to perl is : #!/usr/bin/perl

There are also variables available to all cgi scripts :

$SITE_ROOT = The absolute path of your domain
( Example - */var/www/html )

$SITE_CGIROOT = The absolute CGI path of your domain
( Example - */var/www/cgi-bin )

$SITE_HTMLROOT = The absolute HTML CGI path of your domain
( Example - domain.com/cgi-bin )

You will notice that in actuality your cgi-bin folder
does not physically reside within your html folder, it actually
resides in the folder before your html files for added security.

However, any and all cgi scripts you utilize will still be called
as if your cgi-bin folder resides in your html directory.

Example :

http://yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/yourscript.cgi
